Special interests and insurance companies are spreading lies and
trying to scare seniors into opposing health reform that will help us --
just so they can protect their own profits. It's shameful.
My name
is Connie, and I'm a senior and a volunteer with Organizing for America in
Florida. I'm working to set the record straight, so I wanted to share with
you a list of reasons reform will help seniors.
I'll be Connie is a dyed in the wool socialist / or worse, terribly misguided by feelings--and she is working
from a very specific script provided by the Obama people.
I've
already emailed this to folks I know, and printed it out to hand around --
please do the same! We all need to get the truth out to as many
friends and family as possible to fight these shameful
lies.
Now
isn't that the pot calling the kettle black.....oops, I bet that would
be called a "racist" statement from the side who professes to no longer
"think" or talk race anymore.
President Obama's plan for health insurance reform is
good for seniors, because reform...
... will
STRENGTHEN Medicare. Reform will improve Medicare's quality of
care by cutting down on paperwork, focusing on wellness and prevention,
and rewarding doctors for the care they provide instead of how many
procedures they do. This all adds up to more choices and better care.
How
can this reform as written in Obama care now strengthen Medicare? Sure,
the cost will go down for the govt. but only because they will no
longer pay for certain tests and treatments...those decisions being
taken out of the doctor's hands & put into the hands of govt
bureaucrats. What "reward" are they referring to here for doctors? What
kind of "care" exactly will doctors be giving us without the benefit
of a particular test or procedure necessary to that care? I don't want
that Washington bureaucrat saying my doc can't remove a mole, do a blood test, or order
a colonoscopy...
... will NOT cut our Medicare benefits. President
Obama has clearly said, "nobody is talking about cutting Medicare
benefits." And AARP agrees that reform will simply eliminate billions in
giveaways via the Medicare Advantage program that boost insurance company
profits -- but don't help folks like us. Now
see, there is a lie...the AARP, while wanting reform, does NOT endorse
the Obama plan, but these folks keep invoking their name. Of
course they'll cut benefits! When the govt will no longer pay for tests
and procedures necessary for diagnosis and treatment, doctor's will no
longer order them....hence, we lose that benefit. Change needs to be
done to get rid of the fraud end of things but making a blanket policy
change is throwing out the baby with the bathwater.
... will SAVE us
money. Reform will close the doughnut hole in Medicare Part D
that's costing people so much money for prescription drugs, and eliminate
co-pays for preventative care like cancer screenings and
immunizations. Just
close the darn donut hole now! It's as simple as a pen stroke.
As far as the rest... we found out today that one doesn't have to sign
up for Part D if you can get it through you supplementary insurance
coverage, most have it (do that at the same time you activate your
Medicare) and it's usually cheaper and offers better coverage.
Vilifying insurance companies "just because" is stupid and short
sighted. While some changes need to happen, not all insurance company
options are trying to screw us over. Tell us how they will eliminate
co-pays. Is Medicare going to foot the whole bill? How will that save
$$...whether it come from Medicare or the Obama plan???? This creates
more questions. Will seniors be eligible for Obama care AND
Medicare...either way you look at it, it's gonna cost a lot of $$$$.
... will SAVE Medicare in the long
run. If we do nothing, costs will keep rising and the Medicare
trust fund will be at risk of going bust within a decade. Reform will save
Medicare from bankruptcy and ensure we get the care we need for years to
come. Sure,
this is correct. Medicare, run the way it is now will go bankrupt, but
giving our entire health system over to the govt to run is ludicrous.
Besides, who says costs won't go up under Obama care...prove it! Put it
in writing, if you dare. Can't be done. Reforming health care through insurance
companies will lower costs. TORT reform will lower them even further.
Notice Obama isn't talking about messing with the lawyers and how
they've caused a significant rise in medical costs. If govt. can't run
Medicare in it's much more limited circumstance as it is now, how the H
will they run everyone's health options? How specifically will Obama
care save Medicare from bankruptcy? Give us details. What will Obama
care do SPECIFICALLY to ensure us of all the care we need? They can't
answer those questions because THEY DON'T KNOW the answers!! It's one
of many items on their WISH List for socialized health care. They also
say giving the public "too many details will cause the yawn factor to
kick in and we will stop listening." Hog wash! Present the details of
the plan in, say, 15/30 min increments each evening on TV for instance
and then debate it for real, hashing out the merits or otherwise of it
on capital hill...make it public....etc. There is a way without ramming
it down our throats. It's too huge to just "get it passed" ...creating
a nightmare for all of us in the change over.
... will HELP our loved ones. I have three
children with pre-existing conditions. I live in fear that I will have to
mortgage everything to pay for their care if they lose their jobs, and
can't get coverage. Reform will extend coverage for young people, stop
insurance companies from charging women more or cutting care when you need
it most. And most importantly to me, reform will make it illegal
to deny coverage because of a pre-existing condition. Well,
personally I would say, fine! Make it illegal for insurance companies
to deny someone with a pre-existing condition, but hammer out the kinks
through the private sector...maybe like Lloyds of London does for
certain kinds of insurance coverage. Maybe set up a pool w/in the
private insurance community specifically for those kind of folks. Maybe
the govt can have a certain amt of the general fund slated to that fund
with only one string attached....can't turn any one down for a
pre-existing condition...maybe the fund would only cover any illness or
problem directly related to the pre-existing condition and the family's
reg health insurance can cover anything else. We Don't Need the govt to
take over all health care for every one to do this!! Interesting that
she threw in the part about insurance companies charging women
more....what insurance company does that? Is it blanket policy? Be
specific...charge companies with that and lets see em try to talk
themselves out of it....if true and brought to light, they would be
forced to change it. Some of these ideas may or may not be plausible; the point is that there are alternatives to government take-over.
In
so many ways, reform will help every American struggling with our health
insurance system -- especially seniors. Since
Larry and I are just getting into this whole Medicare thing, we are
discovering there are a multitude of supplemental policies to pick up
the slack on Medicare. Even my dad, who had NO money, was able to
afford a great supplemental policy that covered EVERYTHING medicare
didn't. It was really reasonable and he was very happy with it. They
are only targeting seniors now because most of us have see through the
rhetoric and know it for what it is....BS. They are feeling it right now and fear for what influence our segment of the population might have in slowing the White House steam roller. Notice that Connie didn't
mention the death counseling provision in Obama's plan. From the way it
was written, it should have been called death encouragement provision.
No, seniors ARE paying attention and not buying it. ...made them drop that
from the bill, too.
But insurance companies
that want to protect their profits and partisan attack groups that want to
weaken President Obama at any cost are spreading rumors to scare folks
like us into opposing the reform we need. It's outrageous. To
me, this is the real scare tatic....First she says, The big evil
insurance industry is only out there to steal our money and let us die
for profits. While not every insurance company is reputable or has
perfect coverage, covering the entire industry with the same blanket is
pure hyperbole and not worthy of people who know better. Then she gets
personal and says anyone NOT on board with Obamacare is out to weaken
Pres. Obama ...Pleeease....and his Organizing for America know this and
they are depending on emotions and feelings to trump facts and truth.
This health plan of Obama's is NOT about helping the American people so
much as it is for him to leave a legacy of a socialist medical system
on this country.
Each of
us probably knows at least one person who is uncertain about reform. So
it's up to us to let our friends and neighbors know that reform will help
them, not hurt them. Their
idea of reform is not to simply make some necessary changes to make our
system even better; their definition of reform is to get rid of our
entire system, good with the bad, and start from scratch building
another prodigious bureaucracy that will dwarf all others presently
not efficiently operating w/in our govt. I don't like being
hustled...by ANYONE and that includes the "chosen one" and the power
behind him...Pelosi and Reid.
